Lynn's Lessons

Lynn was kind and courageous, smart and funny. I learned a lot from her while getting to know her over the years. I was hospitalized last year and after returning to work I saw Lynn's name light up on caller ID and thought, how sweet, she's calling to see how I am! When I picked up the phone she was yelling and cussing and really angry with me for not calling and telling her what happened to me. I told her I only called my son and employer because I kept thinking I would be released the next day, everyday for the first 2 weeks. She yelled "I don't care! I wanted to know because I care about you!" I am very lucky because we then told each other how much we cared about each other and how much our relationship meant to us. We promised to let each other know when things happened to us but she never called to say it wasn't her back that was causing her pain and I didn't call her in July to see how she was doing. I took it for granted that we would meet for lunch and she would tell me how wonderful retirement was. I wonder if she thought of our promise to let each other know, but I am so grateful we had that conversation. She is still teaching me through her death to make sure to let the people you love and care about know it. I miss her everyday and will for a long, long time.
